FACIAL PAIN

Dental disease is most often the cause of pain in the face. However, there are many other causes that result in pain including the spasms in the muscles or abnormal behaviours of the nerves. Jaw joint pain for example is an extremely common condition for example caused by excessive habitual grinding of the teeth. A careful assessment to locate the cause of pain means that our clinicians can provide targeted treatment using a combination of appliances, physiotherapy
and medicines. The cause of facial pain is very often misdiagnosed as the teeth could present as a red herring for dentists. We have seen many patients where problems with muscles or nerves have fooled dentists into thinking the pain is originating from the teeth leading to patients having unnecessary dental treatment including removal of teeth. Our clinicians are experts in differentiating between pain of dental and non-dental origin. Accurate diagnosis is essential.
